What’s Metabolism

what is metabolism

Metabolism is defined as a combination of biochemical processes that the body uses to converting the food and drink you consume into energy. These metabolic processes is identified as eating, digestion of food, breathing, delivery of essential nutrient into the cells directly through your blood, nerves and cells, the muscle use of energy and the eradication of waste product from your system. Metabolism is often used by dieter to describe the rate at which your body uses energy and particularly burns out calories. Implying that, metabolism is the rate at which the body converts any food into energy and then later still uses the converted energy to performing some non-essential and very essential duties within the body system.  The extent to which you burn out calories or the rate at which energy are burn out in the body is called the Metabolic Rate. Every human metabolic rate changes every day, this largely depends on what type of activities you undergo, but the basal metabolic rate usually stays steady without much fluctuations. The basal metabolic rate is however defined as the number of calories needed to ginger essential function of the body that includes blood circulation and breathing. The basal metabolic rate is the most significant feature of the total metabolic rate.  For you to know your metabolic rate, you must first calculate your basal metabolic rate.

You can either go for metabolic testing or calculate your metabolism by using the Harris-Benedict Equation to determine your basal metabolic rate. Always know that every human being metabolic rate varies among them. You would be wondering why some person seems to have a very fast metabolism rate and why you have a slow metabolism rate. However, there are several reasons to why such happens. There are factors that naturally affect metabolism rate; some of the factors include gender, body size, age, body temperature, hormone, pregnancy, stimulant intake, caffeine intake, food consumption, level of activities and body composition. What’s Metabolism – Metabolism actually become slow as we age. Men generally have higher metabolism as compared to women and bigger size bodies actually burns out more calories as compared to smaller sizes body. Metabolism also increases once your body is exposed to temperature at the extreme and it can also be increased once you consume stimulant such as caffeine. Furthermore, if  the commonly known thyroid hormones are not produced very well in your body, your metabolism also can increase or decrease, this is however dependent on the level of your hormone.

Guess what, if you are pregnant your metabolism rate is actually fast, but if you don’t eat enough food, your metabolism slows down. Ideally, when you have lean muscle mass, you also tend to burn out more calories than excess fat, even while your body is at its resting mood. Equally, when you move around from one location to another during the day, either through walking or standing or through daily exercise, your body naturally help you burn out more calories.  However, there are some things you can change about your metabolism rate. While you can’t change your gender and your age, there are activities you can indulge yourself into in order to boost your metabolism or lose weight. Some of these activities include daily movement, building of your muscle and exercise. By exercising every day, you will burn more calories once your exercise. Doing an easy work will increase your metabolism level very well while engaging in difficult workouts will assist you in burning out more calories.  When you have no time to exercise, then moving from one place to another can equally help. Increasing your daily movement is one of the best ways to boost your metabolism. Simple movement such as climbing, walking, gardening and house chores requires you to work hard and in turn you burn out calories. On the other hand, eating too much of calories can make you gain excess weight but once you eat less calories food, it can cause your metabolism rate to slow down. Just make sure you eat enough calories in order to maintain a healthy metabolism. Likewise, you can also enhance the composition of your body in order to burn out more calories. Engage in strength exercises that will help build your muscle and burn out calories even while resting at night. Every human being metabolism rate changes slightly every day. But learning how to control or manage metabolism or learning how to maintain a healthy metabolism on a daily routine will allow both weight loss and weight regulation very much easier. Furthermore, metabolism is regarded as a term that is used to describe all of the chemical reaction that in involved in living and maintaining your organs and cells. It can be divided into two categories that include Anabolism and Catabolism.

metabolism

The Anabolism is the synthesis of all the compound that your cells needs while the Catabolism is recognized as the breakdown of molecules in order to get energy. Nutrition, however remain a major key to metabolism.  A clear pathway for metabolism largely relies on nutrient as they get broken down for energy. This broken down energy is then used by the body to synthesize nucleic acids and proteins. Nutrition associated with metabolism allows your body to reach some essential requirement through various substances.  Nutrients give you energy supplies and also supplies needed chemicals that your body itself can’t in any way synthesize. Practically all the food we eat gives a variety of substance that is good for building, repair of body tissue, upkeep and for effective functioning of the body system. These major nutrients are however supplied in lipids, protein, and in carbohydrates. Importantly, they are also contained in water, minerals and vitamin which are very much necessary.  Food gives you carbohydrate in three ways that include cellulose, sugar and starch.  These supply from carbohydrates gives essential sources of energy that your need. Always remember that your body needs glucose for all of its activities. This is because sugar yields glucose either by metabolism or through digestion.
